Visualantis & Theater

Biography

In 1998 A video art performance connected Visualantis with a group of dance performance artists in the Netherlands who all had the same thing in common. They were all open for innovating new approach to theatre and the performing arts scene by combining different visual art techniques and approaches into a promising new whole. As a video artist and artistic director Maurice developed his own style of using film and slide projections in a powerful way in a collage with theatre and dance performances. With his use of Motion Picture body paint we created a perspective that can only be shown by bringing these techniques together.

In 2005, With the production of Terra Imagica a whole new world opened. By bringing together award winning dancers and performance artists from Thailand, Germany, the Netherlands and Italy we developed Terra Imagica - a performance art piece about man in nature and nature in man. In a powerful contemporary dance piece we witness how the natural elements effect us all throughout our entire life, dead, reincarnation and beyond. However Terra Imagica was never performed the way the visionary director intended because his visions were technically not possible for the budget available so it became a puzzle piece for a now upcoming production. All endeavors have created a great experiential which made us able to develop our creative approach to new possibilities.

At this moment the technique is there and the time is ripe and our development for a ‘real-time motion capture feedback devices’ gets closer to being completed.

Our last collaboration in Thailand’s theatre scene was a theatre piece MOTHER OF WATER for the advocacy of HIV/AIDS, gender and sexuality in the Mekong Region.
