Independent Video & Contemporary Theater / Dance Performance Art Productions for Moving Films and Promotions - SE-ASIA

Visualantis - founded in 1998 as a Dutch Non-profit Organization & Artist Collective in the Netherlands - established in Thailand as a video production company and artist coalition in 2004.

Visualantis is founded and run by award winning Dutch DP - Video Artist / Artistic Director Maurice Spees (1975) currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In 1998 Visualantis was founded by a group of Dutch artists and film makers who in 2004 with the help of visualantis were able to spread around the world on their own individual explorations, Maurice took Visualantis to Bangkok where he formed a new collective.

In January 2010, Visualantis became the Video and Dance Performance Art hub for the brand new Dutch company Moving Films. Visualantis works with Moving Films on powerful communication solutions extending their platform on the level of physical and artistic expression measures.

We produce fascinating collaboration and explorations with SE-Asia’s emerging performing arts groups and dance companies and individuals, actors and video artists.

Bringing out the talent in people.

Throughout the past decade Visualantis collaborated with European and Asian Contemporary Dance and Japanese Butoh Dance groups from SE-Asia, merging film and theater together in a fascinating whole. Creating Contemporary Dance pieces for Educational and Holistic Theater.

Next to that, Visualantis has contributed their expertise and talents to the success of a huge variety of independent and broadcast media productions around the globe for international television and independent programs.

Maurice Spees has dedicated his approach and expertise as a full-time editor and freelancer to the International broadcast and independent media industry for more then 12 years. He has worked as a Director/ Cameraman/DP and Editor for a huge variety of international documentaries, short films, news feed, Television series and music videos. for a full biography and showreel goto, Moving Films.

In 1994 Maurice became one of the first VJ’s (video Jockey) in the Benelux, and next to his freelance work he has been performing in the art scene as a Video Artist creating interactive expositions to promote bands, events and essential organizations.

Maurice has won several awards as a DP and photographer, and as an business promotion advisor his ideas and approach have contributed to a huge amount of successful productions worldwide.

His artistic innovating approach to promotions have helped organizations in Europe and Asia stand out and reach the masses.

In 2005-2006 Visualantis worked on the Cinematic Dance Performance Film “Terra Imagica”

with which Maurice Spees developed his Motion Picture body paint technique that can create an visionary astonishing whole. What Maurice wanted to do with Terra Imagica was far out of reach considering the resources available at that time, and is the result that Maurice will only consider using his technique on film and for film until technology lets us create real time 3d projections.

The latest production in Thailand “Mother of Water (2008)” for the advocacy of HIV/AIDS, gender and sexuality for the Mekong Region, a collaboration with the khandha Arts’n Theatre company was and is an enormous success throughout SE-ASIA. Funded by PETA (The Philippine Educational Theatre Association) and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Visualantis contributed the video and video art production, as well as full video portfolio for the Artists involved for their future endeavors.
